Joe Biden delivered an energetic and passionate speech at a NAACP rally in the battleground state of Nevada on Tuesday afternoon, riling up the crowd as he cited the roles of Barack Obama, Kamala Harris and Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson at the highest levels of government and mocked Donald Trump’s “black jobs” references.
The president has spoken in aggressive tones in interviews since the assassination attempt on his Republican rival, including one with NBC on Monday, but his Las Vegas speech marked his return to the campaign trail.
Biden was particularly vocal in his assertion that the Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025 manifesto would have a negative impact on people of color.
However, following Trump’s dismal performance in the first debate with President Donald Trump, Democratic Party leaders, including former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Representative Adam Schiff, are reportedly convinced that Trump will lose and want to remove him from the party’s running mate to avoid a disastrous defeat in November’s election.
Meanwhile, Mr. Trump, who was hit in the right ear by a gunman of unknown motive, Thomas Matthew Crooks, has returned to the campaign trail. At the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, the newly nominated Republican candidate announced that he would nominate Senator J.D. Vance of Ohio as his running mate.
Trump shooter spotted at least three times in the 30 minutes before opening fire
Crooks, a lone individual who had reportedly been kicked out of his high school shooting club because he was such a poor shooter that he was deemed “dangerous,” was discovered on the roof of the American Glass Research Building by members of the Beaver County Emergency Services Unit about 30 minutes before the first shot was fired. Biden says it’s time to ban AR-15s after assassination attempt on Trump
“An AR-15 was used in the shooting of Donald Trump, but other assault weapons have also been used to kill many people, including children,” he said in a speech at the NAACP’s 115th National Convention in Las Vegas on Tuesday.
“It’s time to outlaw them. I’ve done it once and I will do it again.”

Even before the assassination attempt on President Trump, violence was rampant at all levels of American politics.
Long before an assassin attempted to kill former President Donald Trump, the fuse of political violence was burning across America.
A member of Congress has been shot. A Virginia lawmaker’s staffer was attacked with a baseball bat. In Louisville, a bullet grazed the mayor’s sweater after someone broke into his campaign office.
Someone put a tracking device on the mayor of Reno’s car. South Carolina officials received death threats over a solar panel factory. Outside Buffalo, a man threw an imitation pipe bomb into the window of a county clerk candidate’s home, the message saying, “If you don’t drop out of this race, the next pipe bomb will be real.”
The assassination attempt on President Trump is the latest and most shocking example of frequent political violence and harassment across the United States, shaking the foundations of democracy and raising serious concerns that the atmosphere could worsen as Election Day approaches.

US watchdog investigates Secret Service response to Trump rally
The Department of Homeland Security’s inspector general is investigating what the Secret Service planned to do in the weekend assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania.
The inspector general will “evaluate the U.S. Defense Secret Service’s processes regarding security for former President Trump’s campaign event on July 13, 2024,” a notice on the inspector general’s website said.
The notice was posted on the watchdog’s “Ongoing Projects” page under the category “Counter-terrorism and homeland threats.”
The shooting has raised serious concerns about how the suspect was able to gain access to a nearby rooftop with a direct view of where President Trump was speaking.
Trump later said he was feeling fine and attended the Republican National Convention this week, but with blood on his face from being shot in his right ear. One rally attendee was shot dead, two others wounded and the suspect died.

TSMC shares fall after Trump says Taiwan should pay for defense
Shares in Taiwanese chipmaker TSMC fell on Wednesday after Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said the United States has given Taiwan nothing and that Taiwan should pay for its own defense.
“I know the Taiwanese people very well and I have a lot of respect for them. They’ve taken about 100 percent of our semiconductor business. I think Taiwan should pay for our defense,” Trump said in the interview. Bloomberg Businessweek It was scheduled for release on June 25 but was released on Tuesday.
“You know, we’re no different from insurance companies. Taiwan is not giving us anything.”
TSMC is a major maker of advanced chips used in everything from AI applications to smartphones to fighter jets, and analysts believe any conflict over Taiwan would be devastating to the global economy.
The United States is Taiwan’s most important international backer and arms supplier, but there is no formal defense agreement between the two countries. However, the United States is obligated by law to provide Taiwan with the means to defend itself.
Taiwan, which China considers its territory, has complained about increased Chinese military activity over the past four years as Beijing tries to exert pressure on the democratically ruled island, which rejects China’s claims of sovereignty.
U.S. President Joe Biden angered Beijing with comments that suggested the United States would defend Taiwan if attacked, a departure from America’s longstanding position of “strategic ambiguity.”

‘Morning Joe’ host slams network for cancelling show after Trump shooting
The morning news and commentary program announced Sunday that it would interrupt its broadcast the next day with breaking news of the assassination attempt, raising questions about why the network’s influential, highly-watched programming would be sidelined at the start of a critical week as news of the attack breaks and the Republican National Convention gets underway.
“We’ve been told categorically that on Sunday night, all NBC channels will have a single news feed…. We’re going to remain in breaking news mode as a network,” host Joe Scarborough said as the show returned to the air on Tuesday.
“That didn’t happen,” he said.

According to data from the Trump campaign, the shooter’s father was identified as “a likely Republican, gun owner and hunter.”
The father of Thomas Crooks, the 20-year-old suspect in plotting to assassinate Donald Trump, was previously identified by former President Trump’s campaign as one of the voters most likely to respond favorably to pro-gun control messaging.

How Republicans and Democrats are shifting their election strategies after the Trump shooting
The Wisconsin Democratic Party under Ben Wikler’s leadership has been one of the Democratic Party’s greatest successes. Four years after Donald Trump became the first Republican to win Wisconsin since Ronald Reagan’s landslide victory in 1984, Wikler led the state to victory for Joe Biden, flipping a state Supreme Court seat and retaining the governor’s office in a year that was supposed to be a major victory for Democrats.

Biden admits ‘point-of-the-spot’ comments about Trump were ‘mistakes’
President Joe Biden said it was a “mistake” to use the word “bullseye” during a campaign call urging supporters to focus on former President Donald Trump’s policies as allies of the president try to pin the blame for an assassination attempt on Democrats.
In a private call with supporters last week, Biden shifted the focus from his own poor performance in last month’s debate and instead urged them to “put Trump at the center of the target.”
