LOS ANGELES (AP) — “The Bear” was on Wednesday morning Emmy Award Nominee With a record 23 nominations for a comedy series, “Shogun” led all nominees with 25 in a dominating year across all categories for FX.
The critically acclaimed cooking show “The Bear,” which starred Jeremy Allen White, was nominated for Best Actor in a Comedy Series and Best Comedy Series, and won both. Ceremony postponed due to January strikealong with the Best Actress award. Ayo EdebiriShe previously won the Best Supporting Actress award.
The film was also boosted by a number of guest actor nominations, including two of the many Oscar winners nominated for the role, Jamie Lee Curtis and Olivia Colman.
“Shogun” took full advantage of the absence of last year’s top three nominees, “Succession,” “The White Lotus” and “The Last of Us,” to win the drama category and give FX the strong year that HBO is known for.
Nominees included Best Drama Series, Best Actress for Anna Sawai, and Best Actor for Hiroyuki Sanada.
The show shook up the drama competition when producers announced in May that they would move the critically adored show from the limited series category to the more prestigious drama category and consider making more than one season, despite the story concluding with James Clavell’s historical novel about the political intrigue of early 17th century Japan.
Nominees in the drama series category include “The Crown,” “Fallout,” “The Gilded Age,” “The Morning Show,” “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” “Shogun,” “Slow Horses” and “Three Body Problem.”
The nominees for best actress in a drama series are Jennifer Aniston (The Morning Show), Carrie Coon (The Gilded Age), Maya Erskine (Mr. & Mrs. Smith), Anna Sawai (Shogun), Imelda Staunton (The Crown) and Reese Witherspoon (The Morning Show).
The nominees for Best Actor in a Drama Series are Idris Elba (Hijack), Donald Glover (Mr. & Mrs. Smith), Walter Goggins (Fallout), Gary Oldman (Slow Horses), Hiroyuki Sanada (Shogun) and Dominic West (The Crown).
The nominees in the Best Comedy Series category include “Abbott Elementary,” “The Bear,” “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” “Hucks,” “Only Murders in the Building,” “Palm,” “Reservation Dogs” and “What We Do in the Shadows.”
The nominees for best actress in a comedy are Quinta Brunson (Abbott Elementary), Ayo Edebiri (The Bear), Selena Gomez (Only Murders in the Building), Maya Rudolph (Root), Jean Smart (Hucks) and Kristen Wiig (Palm Royale).
Nominees for best actor in a comedy series are Matt Berry (What We Do in the Shadows), Larry David (Curb Your Enthusiasm), Steve Martin (Only Murders in the Building), Martin Short (Only Murders in the Building), Jeremy Allen White (The Bear) and Du’Pharaoh Oona Tai (Reservation Dogs).
The nominees in the Best Limited or Anthology Series category are “Baby Reindeer,” “Fargo,” “Lessons in Chemistry,” “The Talented Mr. Ripley” and “True Detective: Night Country.”
Nominees for Best Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series are Dakota Fanning (The Talented Mr. Talent), Lily Gladstone (Under the Bridge), Jessica Gunning (Baby Reindeer), Aja Naomi King (Lessons in Chemistry), Diane Lane (The Swan Queen), Nava Mau (Baby Reindeer) and Kali Reis (True Detective: Night Country).
Nominees for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series are Jonathan Baillie (The Fellowship of the Ring), Robert Downey Jr. (The Sympathizer), Tom Goodman-Hill (Baby Reindeer), John Hawkes (True Detective: Night Country), Lewis Pullman (Lessons in Chemistry), Treat Williams (The Disastrous Life of Capote and Lamorne Morris (Fargo).
Nominees in the Outstanding Reality-Competition Program category include “The Amazing Race,” “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” “Top Chef,” “The Traitors” and “The Voice.”
The nominees will be announced just six months after the last Emmy Awards, which were postponed due to last year’s writers’ and actors’ strike.
The show will return to its traditional schedule, kicking off on September 15 at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles and broadcasting on ABC.
