Four people are dead and three others are hospitalized after a mass shooting overnight at a home in northern Kentucky. The suspected shooter also died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in his car, bringing the total death toll from the incident to five. The suspected shooter has since been identified by police as Chase Garvey, 21, of Florence. Florence police said officers responded to a home on Ridgecrest Drive in Florence, Kentucky, at 2:51 a.m. early Saturday morning after receiving multiple calls for reports of an active shooter inside the residence. When they arrived, officers said they could still hear gunshots. When they entered the residence, officers said they found seven people suffering from gunshot wounds, four of whom were pronounced dead at the scene. Police said a birthday party was currently underway at the residence of Melissa Parrett, 44, who was hosting the party for her 21-year-old son. Parrett was identified as one of the victims killed in the shooting. The other victims were identified as: Shane Miller, 20, of Florence, Ky. Hayden Rybicki, 20, of Elsmere, Ky. Delaney Eary, 19, of Burlington, Ky. The other three victims were transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. Their condition is currently listed as critical but stable. Police said Garvey fled the scene in a motor vehicle by the time officers arrived. Officers said they quickly located the fleeing suspect near Farmview Drive and U.S. 42 and attempted to arrest him, leading to a pursuit. The chase ended on Dale Heimbrock Way near Hicks Pike after the suspect vehicle left the roadway and fell into a ditch. Officers said they discovered Garvey had suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police said their preliminary investigation indicates Garvey was not an attendee at the party and that police believe he came to the home for the sole purpose of committing a violent attack on the home’s residents. According to court records, Garvey has two prior felony convictions in Kentucky for first-degree rape and second-degree sodomy, both from 2021. Police confirmed Garvey’s criminal record during their news conference. Florence Police Chief Jeff Mallery “We’ve never dealt with this type of situation before. We know it happens all over the country, but this is the first time we’ve had a mass shooting in Florence,” he told the media. Mallery also said officers responded to the home earlier in the night for a loud noise complaint that was unrelated to the shooting. The Florence Police Department’s Crime Scene Investigation and Investigation Units responded to the scene to investigate. Police said there is currently no threat to the public, saying the suspect acted alone. The Florence Police Department is asking anyone with relevant information about this incident to contact them at 859-371-1234.
