CARSON, Calif. (KABC) — Dozens of juveniles were arrested Saturday after a trash can was set on fire and fireworks were set off at a Carson shopping center, the sheriff’s department said.
Deputies responded to the SouthBay Pavilion shopping center on Avalon Boulevard around 2:30 p.m. after receiving reports of a “large-scale disturbance” involving approximately 200 juveniles.
Carson Police Department said someone set a trash can on fire and illegal fireworks were set off inside a store. Between 60 and 70 juveniles were arrested for refusing to disperse, investigators said.
“Deputies arrested several juveniles who were issued citations in connection with the incident and will appear in court at a later date,” read a post from the Carson Sheriff’s Station on X.
Video from the scene shows a line of minors in the parking lot, several of whom were handcuffed.
The sheriff’s department said no arrests have been made.
The detained minors have since been returned to their parents/guardians.
“Criminal activity of this nature is disruptive to our business and harmful to our community and will not be tolerated,” the X post continued. “We would like to thank our community members who immediately contacted law enforcement and for the cooperation and support provided by customers and our law enforcement partners.”
There were no robberies or injuries, investigators said.
