During a recent meeting at the office of the Minister of Mines and Energy on June 25, 2024, Indonesian Ambassador Santo Darmosumarto expressed Indonesia’s commitment to collaborate with Cambodia to identify and map potential mineral reserves in the country.
Coal remains an important trade product between Indonesia and Cambodia, but the Ambassador and Minister Keo Rattanak highlighted important opportunities for mutual cooperation in the new and renewable energy sectors. This partnership fits perfectly with their common objectives of combating climate change and reducing carbon emissions.
“Indonesia is keen to support the development of renewable energy in Cambodia, particularly in the areas of hydro and solar energy,” said Ambassador Darmosumarto. “We also look forward to learning from Cambodia’s success in transitioning to greener energy alternatives. »
In pursuit of regional energy security, Minister Keo highlighted the importance of Indonesia’s support for the advancement of the ASEAN Power Grid initiative. This initiative aims to strengthen energy connectivity across Southeast Asia while respecting the sovereignty of each nation.
The meeting ended with a reaffirmation of the desire of both sides to strengthen cooperation in the fields of energy and minerals. This collaboration is expected to bring substantial benefits, promote sustainable development and foster economic growth in both countries.
