SAINT GEORGE – The Army ROTC program returns to the Utah Tech University campus this fall.
Cadets who complete Utah Tech’s Reserve Officer Training Program can graduate as officers in the U.S. Army or the Utah National Guard. The program will allow students to major in their chosen subject and specialize in military science.
“This is an exceptional opportunity for the Utah National Guard to partner with both UT and the Army Cadet Command to revive the ROTC program,” said Lt. Col. Toby Adamson, commander of the Utah Army National Guard Recruiting and Retention Battalion, in a news release. “We are confident that UT will produce excellent officers and leaders by providing them with an active, high-quality education.”
“This is an important partnership between the U.S. Army, the Utah National Guard and Utah Tech. It’s great to come back to Utah Tech to participate in the great programs the school has developed.”
Stephen Lee, dean of Utah Tech’s College of Humanities and Social Sciences, agreed, noting that it was “an important community partnership with the U.S. Army and the Utah National Guard.”
“I can’t think of a better example of UT’s ‘active learning, active living’ mission than ROTC,” Lee added. “Our students will receive an excellent education and significant career opportunities.”
Students enrolled in the ROTC program are eligible for significant scholarships to help cover the cost of tuition, room and board.
“ROTC college programs expand scholarship opportunities for deserving students and provide a direct path to serve as officers in the U.S. Army,” said Lt. Col. Travis Bailey, professor of military science at Service First Battalion Army ROTC.
According to a press release, Utah Tech’s ROTC program will be managed by the new Department of Military Science, which will initially be staffed by Utah National Guard personnel and will include curriculum developed by the Army. The Department of Military Science will be located in Utah Tech’s McDonald Center and will be part of the university’s College of Humanities and Social Sciences.
