We’re just one day away from the 4th of July, and people all over the country, especially in Massachusetts, will be celebrating the event.
If you’re planning to travel on Wednesday and can get on the road now, you’ll be in good shape, as traffic is light.
However, as the day progresses, the roads are expected to become busier.
In fact, AAA says it expects nearly 71 million people to travel during the July 4 holiday week, and more than 60 million of them will drive to their destinations.
The travel expert is once again expecting a record number of travelers for this holiday. And that seems to be the trend after the decline in travelers during the pandemic.
“We’re seeing that post-pandemic, people are traveling differently, more people now have the ability to work remotely. What people are doing, a lot of them, is they’re going away the weekend before, working remotely from their destination for a few days, then taking a vacation and coming back,” said Aixa Diaz, a spokesperson for AAA. “It gives you flexibility, it feels like you’re on vacation because you’re away, you’re not at home, so your routine is different, but you can work remotely, without taking as many vacation days.”
So, what are the best and worst times to travel?
Wednesday and Thursday, between 2pm and 7pm, are the times when it is best to avoid driving. If you can leave before noon, this will be the best time to travel.
Then, on Friday, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., the roads are likely to be difficult, while it is recommended to travel before 10 a.m.
Travel experts suggest avoiding rush hours as they also worsen congestion on the roads.
