PORTLAND, Oregon (KOIN) — Portland has appeared on a travel magazine’s list of this month’s top getaway destinations.
To give readers time to plan their itineraries, Travel + Leisure has released its list of 15 Best Places to Travel in July Last April, experts considered July to be the “peak summer vacation” month, with classes out of session for many students and better chances to enjoy the sun.
The list includes destinations in several countries, although the United States claimed eight spots, including the Pink City.
Although this contradicts the latest weather forecastTravel + Leisure highlighted Portland for its sunny, dry summers with temperatures typically above 70 degrees.
“The pedestrian-friendly downtown is known for its duty-free shopping, casual dining and coffee culture,” the magazine adds. “In July, the Waterfront Blues Festival (July 4-7) features more than 100 acts on four stages at Waterfront Park along the Willamette River, kicking off on July 4 with Oregon’s largest fireworks display.”
Travel + Leisure recommended The Nines Hotel as a luxury pet-friendly lodging option. The Ritz-Carlton Portland, which opened on Halloween last year, was also highlighted for its views of downtown, the Cascade Mountains and the Willamette River.
Other places to visit in July include the Costa Brava in Spain, the Outer Banks in North Carolina, and Aspen and Snowmass in Colorado.
