Logicalis’ CIO 2024 report indicates that the majority of global CIOs are investing in environmental initiatives and technologies.
Logicalis, the world’s leading technology services provider, reveals that sustainability is a key priority for technology leaders in 2024. According to its tenth annual CIO Report, which surveyed more than 1,000 CIOs globally, nearly all (92%) CIOs are investing in sustainability initiatives or technologies this year.
In the face of global economic uncertainty, CIOs’ commitment to the green agenda remains steadfast, with CIOs at the heart of their organization’s sustainability strategy.
Ninety-six percent of technology leaders said they were already involved in their organization’s overall sustainability planning and goal setting, and 93% said they believed IT was critical to successfully achieving their organization’s environmental goals.
No less than 90% of them also said they assess the sustainability credentials of new suppliers before working with them.
Sustainability continues to be recognized as a necessary investment by businesses as it not only benefits the environment but also reduces energy consumption and operational costs.
However, there are still obstacles to overcome. Most (93%) of companies believe that achieving their environmental goals is difficult, and 43% of them believe that collecting data distributed across the organization is a challenge.
Statistics show that a similar number of businesses are not fully confident that their organization knows how its digital assets are performing against environmental goals.
Bob Bailkoski, CEO of Logicalis, said: “Investing in sustainability is not only the right thing to do, it’s also a business imperative for companies. We know that reducing carbon and energy consumption also means lower costs, and with increasingly stringent regulations on carbon reporting, prioritising sustainability today will help CIOs later.
“We work closely with our partners to ensure we are accountable for our carbon emissions in the outcomes we achieve through technology and, through visibility tools such as our Digital Fabric platform, we enable our customers to better self-manage the carbon performance of their IT assets.”
Toby Alcock, CTO of Logicalis, said: “CIOs around the world continue to face pressure when it comes to prioritising innovation, balancing costs and reducing carbon emissions, but these priorities do not have to be in competition.
“With access to reliable data, CIOs should be able to see where there are short- and long-term gains, both environmentally and financially. In addition, they are well positioned to attract new customers who are looking to outsource their operations to more sustainable suppliers.
“The fact that IT is now involved in sustainable development at a strategic level should ensure that all initiatives have the right infrastructure and support to succeed.”
