The Holy See Press Office announced today the details of the apostolic journey that the Pope will make to Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, East Timor and Singapore, from 2 to 13 September 2024. The Pope will depart on Monday 2 September from Rome-Fiumicino International Airport for Jakarta, Indonesia, marking the first stop on his great apostolic journey through Asia and Oceania.
In Indonesia, the papal plane will land at Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on Tuesday 3rd at 11:30, followed by a welcoming ceremony at the Istana Merdeka presidential palace on Wednesday 4th at 9:30. During his stay, the Pope will meet with various authorities and groups, including an interreligious meeting at the Istiqlal Mosque and a visit to the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption.
In Papua New Guinea, the Pope will continue his agenda with meetings with local authorities, visits to educational and religious institutions, as well as the celebration of masses and meetings with the community.
In East Timor, the Holy Father will meet with young people, authorities and religious groups, and his visit will conclude with a Mass on the Tasitolu esplanade.
In Singapore, the Pope will participate in various activities, including meetings with young people and authorities and the celebration of Masses in emblematic places. His visit will conclude on Friday 13 with a series of interreligious meetings and a farewell ceremony at Singapore’s Changi International Airport, before returning to Rome.
