CHEYENNE, Wyo. — The Cheyenne-Laramie County Health Department inspects restaurants, bars, convenience stores, delis, gourmet food stores, bed and breakfasts and more. Each establishment receives an unannounced inspection at least twice a year.
According to the department, there are two types of violations: “red critical violations” and “black violations.” Critical violations are those that are most likely to cause a foodborne illness and make someone sick. Non-critical violations, on the other hand, may be more related to cleanliness or maintenance of the establishment.
According to the Department of Health, “We try to ensure that the facility corrects any violations immediately. Critical violations are corrected either immediately or within 24 hours.” It adds that for non-critical violations, they still have to be corrected, but a follow-up may not occur until the next routine inspection.
If a re-inspection is needed, the problem may have been more serious or the facility needed more time to resolve it. They have 10 days to resolve the issue.
While the department looks for deficiencies, the organization’s primary goal is to educate businesses, helping them understand unsafe practices and how to correct them. That means the absence of violations doesn’t necessarily mean the business is unsafe.
Any serious violations or notable citations will be included in the summary notes below, but each restaurant’s full report can be found on the Department of Health’s website, where all of its current information is posted.
