The Baltimore Orioles announced Monday that Catie Griggs will serve as the first female President of Business Operations in team history, where she will oversee all aspects of the Orioles’ business operations.
“Catie’s track record of success, diverse business experience and commitment to excellence make her the right person to lead the next chapter of our business operations in Baltimore,” said Orioles Owner and Controller David M. Rubenstein. “The entire Orioles organization welcomes Catie as we continue to enhance every aspect of our operations.”
Griggs was named President of Business Operations for the Seattle Mariners in July 2021, where she manages all aspects of the Mariners’ business operations, including investments to enhance technology, operations and the fan experience at T-Mobile Park. Additionally, Catie led the change as T-Mobile Park became the first venue to host both MLB All-Star Week (2023) and the NHL Winter Classic (2024) in a single calendar year. Combined, the two events generated more than $80 million in revenue for the city of Seattle and directly engaged more than 300,000 fans.
Prior to joining the Mariners, Griggs spent the previous four years (2017-2021) helping build Atlanta United into a leading Major League Soccer franchise. He served as Chief Business Officer, overseeing all aspects of Atlanta United’s headquarters. Prior to Atlanta United, Griggs worked at Futures Sport & Entertainment, as well as Turner Broadcasting.
“I am thrilled to be joining the Orioles organization. Supporting this great team, the city of Baltimore and our passionate fans is an incredible honor,” Griggs said. “I look forward to contributing to the team’s success both on and off the field.”
“We believe that Oriole fans and the Baltimore community will benefit from the unique experience and perspective that Catie brings,” said Orioles owner and Charm City Sports Partners, LLC co-owner Michael Arougheti. “That experience will be invaluable as we begin work on reimagining Oriole Park at Camden Yards.”
Throughout her career, Catie has been honored by the Sports Business Journal as both a Game Changer (2017), an annual award honoring female leaders, and 40 Under 40 (2022), an annual award recognizing the best young talent in sports business.
A native of North Carolina, Griggs received a BA from Dartmouth College and an MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth.
Griggs is expected to assume his new position on August 19, 2024.
