Pricing for the CX-50 Hybrid starts at $33,970 and is expected to arrive in dealerships later this year.
- Mazda has announced the new CX-50 Hybrid, which is equipped with a hybrid system made by Toyota.
- The crossover boasts a combined output of 219 horsepower and 163 pound-feet of torque.
- The hybrid costs $33,970 and has a combined fuel economy of 38 mpg.
Mazda has unveiled the 2025 CX-50, which is notable for getting an all-new hybrid model that’s rated at 38 mpg combined, 10 mpg more than the standard model and saving drivers about $575 a year in fuel savings.
First, under the hood, the CX-50 is equipped with Toyota’s Hybrid system, which consists of a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, three electric motors, an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission, and a small battery pack. This configuration gives the all-wheel-drive crossover a combined output of 219 horsepower (163 kW / 222 PS) and 163 pound-feet (221 Nm) of torque.

While the hybrid system is sourced from Toyota, Mazda says its engineers “tuned every detail of the hybrid powertrain, including accelerator pedal response, to deliver the connected, responsive driving dynamics that the CX-50 is known for.” The company also said the crossover has a “refined, smooth drive” and can tow up to 1,500 pounds (680 kg).
Styling-wise, there’s nothing particularly noteworthy, but the CX-50 Hybrid does feature a revised front bumper and unique 17- or 19-inch alloy wheels. This model is also available in Hybrid-exclusive red leather.
Besides the new hybrid model, the 2025 CX-50 also gets several updates, including Alexa integration across all models. The crossover also gets additional standard safety features, including rear seat alert, vehicle exit warning, and improved Smart Brake Support with night-time pedestrian detection and frontal collision mitigation technology.
Additional changes are limited, but Mazda has tweaked some packages and added extra equipment to the top-of-the-line CX-50 2.5 Turbo Premium Plus model, most notably by equipping this luxury crossover with front cross-traffic alert.
The 2.5 S variant comes with the familiar 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 187 horsepower (139 kW / 190 PS) and 185 pound-feet (251 Nm) of torque, but offers slightly better fuel economy at 25 mpg city, 31 mpg highway and 28 mpg combined.
Buyers looking for more power can opt for a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that delivers up to 256 horsepower (191 kW / 260 PS) and 320 pound-feet (433 Nm) of torque – those figures drop to 227 horsepower (169 kW / 230 PS) and 310 pound-feet (420 Nm) on regular 87-octane fuel.
The 2025 Mazda CX-50 will start arriving in U.S. dealerships next month, but the CX-50 Hybrid won’t go on sale until later this year.
