The Tulsa Health Department’s James O. Goodwin Health Center is temporarily closed for renovations.
Health center officials said the facility hasn’t undergone such a major renovation since it opened in 1998.
The Tulsa Health Department announced that starting July 29, it plans to renovate its main entrance to make it a more welcoming, ADA-compliant space.
The ventilation system will also be updated, and THD hopes to modernize parts of its clinical services, vital records office and environmental health services programs.
Non-clinical services such as environmental health, food protection, water testing and SoonerCare enrollment assistance will continue to be provided during the renovation. Birth and death certificates will also be issued.
Vice-chairman Reg Ivey said the goal of the $5 million project is to make the facility better for the community.
“We’ve been working on upgrading all of our sites for the past six years, but this particular site is the last one to undergo major renovations. We want to ensure that we improve the customer experience when they interact with the Tulsa Health Department, and we also value being located in an aesthetically pleasing location,” Ivey said.
Construction will be carried out in two phases. The first phase is scheduled to be completed in January. The second phase is scheduled to be completed by June 2025.
