Business media MarketWatch said Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport is one of the best in the country when it comes to taking the stress out of air travel.
More than 1.6 million flights have been operated in the United States this year, which means the likelihood of an accident occurring is very high. Of those, 330,478 flights have been delayed, meaning there is roughly a 1 in 5 chance that travelers will not reach their destination on time. There is also roughly a 2% chance that a flight will be diverted or canceled entirely. More than 30,000 departing flights will be affected.
MarketWatch recently ranked the 30 largest US airports based on how well they offer stress-free travel, with Atlanta’s airport coming in second.
“Our study found that every region had a mix of top and bottom tiers when it came to passenger experience,” MarketWatch reports. “Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport had the shortest TSA wait time at just nine minutes, but was second in the percentage of canceled flights. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in Atlanta, Georgia, and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in Washington, DC, stood out for their relatively short average wait times.”
The business publication took into account six metrics to determine the rankings: delays, cancellations, diversions, price, flight congestion, and TSA wait times. Hartsfield-Jackson ranked in the top five airports with the fewest canceled flights, no small feat considering it will remain the world’s busiest airport in 2023 with 104.7 million flights.
Phoenix Sky Harbor performed well across the board, taking the top spot overall, with Harry Reid, Los Angeles International Airport and Reagan National rounding out the top five.
George Bush Intercontinental/Houston, Newark Liberty International Airport, Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, Chicago Midway International Airport and John F. Kennedy International Airport were considered the most stressful locations upon departure.
