Earlier this year, Samsung jumped on the AI bandwagon with the launch of the Galaxy AI. Unsurprisingly, the company revealed in the July 2024 issue of Galaxy Unpacked that its latest smartphone, Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 It is equipped with AI functions, which sets it apart from its predecessor.

To help you parse the vast number of new AI features and identify which ones will be most useful to you, I’ve lumped them all together and grouped them into three categories:
1. AI tackles productivity
The best AI features are those that help with everyday tasks, and the Galaxy Z Fold 6 is packed with them. Starting with Note Assist in Samsung Notes, onboard AI also helps translate, summarize, and auto-format your notes. You can even translate PDFs in the Notes app with the PDF overlay translation feature.
The Composer feature on the Samsung keyboard automatically generates text suggestions for emails, and in social media apps it also composes text using the tone of your previous posts.

You can also incorporate the smartphone’s S Pen to create shortcuts for these features.Furthermore, the S Pen comes with Smart Select, which suggests useful features like translation, and a new sketch-to-image feature that offers image options based on a quick sketch.
To improve communication between different languages, Samsung has upgraded the Galaxy Z Fold 6’s interpreter feature to add a new conversation mode, which allows both conversation participants to view translations on the main screen and the cover screen. Samsung is also encouraging some popular third-party apps to integrate the live translation feature, which translates calls in real time directly on the device in Samsung’s native calling app.
You can use your phone’s S Pen to create shortcuts to these handy features. Additionally, the S Pen has a Smart Select feature that suggests useful features like translation, and a new Sketch-to-Image feature that gives you image options based on your sketch.
2. Creator tools for the AI era
Having a good camera is only one factor in taking a good photo. Knowing how to take a good photo is just as important. Samsung’s new AI features help take the guesswork out of digital photography by automatically adjusting elements like composition and color grading.

For example, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 comes with the AI-powered ProVisual Engine, which uses an AI chip to understand what you’re shooting and optimizes color and clarity based on the subject. Portrait Studio lets you create different portrait-style images, including 3D cartoons and watercolors, as shown in the image below. Finally, Instant Slow-mo lets you slow down videos by automatically generating extra frames.
Galaxy Z Flip 6 features Auto Zoom for FlexCam, leveraging the phone’s unique clamshell design to capture high-quality photos hands-free. Auto Zoom uses AI to automatically detect the subject of your photo, including the background elements you want in the frame, and pans in and out to adjust accordingly. This feature is especially useful for creatives on the go alone.
3. Google Gemini Integration
Google released Gemini for Android in February, giving Android users a more intelligent AI assistant than the typical ones that come preloaded on their phones. Samsung has integrated its Gemini app into its Galaxy Z series, giving users an AI-powered assistant that can be accessed by swiping the corner of the screen or saying “Hey Google.”
When you access the Gemini app, you’ll see the Gemini overlay, as seen above. With this overlay, you can get AI assistance with certain tasks like composing an email or sending a text message, or you can invoke multimodal AI to answer specific questions about the text or images on your screen. You can also click the home button to enable the Circle to Search feature, which allows you to highlight parts of an image and get search results in real time.
