Indonesian Olympians expressed optimism about their chances at the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics.
Badminton player Jonathan Christie, who will be competing in the men’s singles, expressed optimism, saying the Indonesian badminton team is ready to compete against players from other countries.
“Today, we have practiced well and in a few days we will leave for Paris, where we will have a training camp. [prior to the competition]”Overall, I think our preparations are pretty good,” he said after a farewell ceremony for the Indonesian delegation at Jakarta’s Merdeka Palace on Wednesday (July 10).
Jonathan noted that badminton’s success in bringing home medals at previous Olympics has served as both a motivation and a challenge for the team, and expressed optimism that the players would give their best in their quest for a medal.
“I think this year we all have the same objectives and goals and despite the circumstances we’re going to do our best and try to win,” he said.
Speed climber Vedrick Leonardo echoed similar sentiments, saying he is determined to give his all, especially as this is his first Olympic Games and the first time sport climbing will be featured competitively in the Olympics.
“It should motivate us to achieve great results and show that Indonesian sport climbing can compete with other countries,” he said, adding that he was aiming for the gold medal.
Another climber, Razia Sarsabira, also expressed her determination to give her best in the competition to win an Olympic gold medal and bring glory to the country.
“Please wish us good luck and support us so that we can do our best at the 2024 Paris Olympics,” she said. (BPMI/AIT) (DH/EP)
