JAKARTA (ANTARA) – Former Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kallah met with Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Doha on Friday (12 July) to stress solidarity and convey the Indonesian people’s support for Palestinian independence.
In his statement on Saturday, Kara also offered condolences to the Palestinian people who have fallen victim to the ongoing conflict.
The world’s attention is now on Gaza and everyone is concerned about the security situation and all aspects of life there, he said.
“The world is devastated by this humanitarian tragedy,” Kara said, according to the statement.
As chairman of the Indonesian Red Cross, he said the Israeli blockade was making it difficult to transport aid to Gaza.
He also advised the Hamas organization to always demonstrate unity and cooperation with Al-Fatah, including with its internal relations, in order to improve the situation in Palestine.
He stressed that without unity of aspiration and organisation, resolving the Gaza issue would only become more complicated.

Kara also proposed developing a humanitarian plan for Gaza to prevent an increase in the number of war casualties, with a program based on priorities, such as treating the wounded and sick, and rescuing women, the elderly and children.
But Kara cautioned Haniyeh that this would be ineffective unless the violence stopped first.
“Reconstruction and rehabilitation of Gaza can be carried out if the violence can be stopped. All our efforts must begin from a humanitarian perspective, not from political or ideological points of view,” he said.
During the meeting, Haniyeh also explained the current situation in Gaza, including humanitarian and political issues.
He highly appreciated the diplomatic position and role of the Republic of Indonesia, its provision of humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza, its contribution to the treatment of the wounded, its demonstrations and its broad solidarity with the Palestinian people.
