The FBI has named a suspect in the shooting at a rally for former President Donald Trump in Pennsylvania on Saturday night.
An agency representative confirmed to Business Insider on Sunday morning that the suspect is Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania.
The FBI added that the investigation into the shooting is ongoing and active and is also asking for tips from witnesses and anyone with information.
The website for submitting information is www.FBI.gov/Butler.
Federal Election Commission records show that someone with the suspect’s name and area code made a $15 donation in January 2021 to the Progressive Turnout Project through ActBlue, a platform that raises money for political candidates. It’s unclear if the donor and the suspect are the same person.
The Associated Press and CNN reported that Pennsylvania records show the suspect is a registered Republican voter.
A student with the same name graduated from Bethel Park High School in 2022 and received a $500 National Math & Science Initiative Star Award, the Western Pennsylvania TribLive news outlet reported at the time.
Trump was escorted off stage after shots were fired during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The gunman was taken out. One rallygoer was killed; two others were seriously injured.
Secret Service agents were photographed running onto the stage to help him, and blood was visible on Trump’s face — particularly around his ear. Trump later posted to Truth Social that he had been shot above the ear.
The Secret Service said Saturday that the former president was safe. Trump was seen arriving in New Jersey shortly after midnight, surrounded by heavily armed guards and Secret Service members.
