After a strong performance as a member of the Philadelphia 76ers in the Utah Summer League last week, former Virginia Tech forward Cave Aluma is resuming his Utah run in Las Vegas.
On Saturday, Carr had another strong performance for the 76ers in Philadelphia’s Las Vegas Summer League opener, scoring 19 points and grabbing eight rebounds in a 94-81 win over the Detroit Pistons. In just over 22 minutes of playing time, the former Hawkie was an impressive 8-of-10 from the field and 2-of-2 from three-point range, with five of his rebounds coming on the offensive end.
He finished close for the Pistons with a three-point play. He finished three points behind teammate Ricky Council, who had 22 points and six rebounds, while Jeff Dowtin had 18 points, five rebounds and eight assists.
The Las Vegas Summer League could be a great stepping stone for Aluma as he tries to make Philadelphia’s roster while pursuing an NBA career. Even if he doesn’t stay with the 76ers, he’s certainly made a name for himself with other teams in the league in Utah and Las Vegas taking notice. Aluma and Philadelphia face off again against the Portland Trail Blazers on Monday night at 8:30 on NBA TV.
Former Virginia Tech player Hunter Catur also struggled in his first game with the Cleveland Cavaliers, missing all four of his shots from the field, all of which were from behind the three-point line. He scored his lone point with a free throw in a 106-79 loss to the Orlando Magic. Catur and the Cavaliers return to action today at 3:30 p.m. on NBA TV against the Milwaukee Bucks.
