Sanford Health, through a partnership with Sanford Imagentix and leading precision medicine organization Helix, has launched a new genetic screening study, “ImagineYou.”
The free Population Health Survey study will provide genetic testing for conditions that put you at higher risk for certain cancers and heart disease. These genetic conditions include:
- Familial hypercholesterolemia (genetic high cholesterol)
- Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer Syndromes (BRCA1 and BRCA2 Genes)
- Lynch syndrome (hereditary colorectal cancer)
Participants who are shown to be at increased risk for any of these diseases will receive free genetic counseling and follow-up care. Additionally, participants can learn more about their regional ancestry and genetics through their Helix account.
“ImagineYou is a very unique genetic screening program that helps patients and their healthcare teams identify factors that may put them at risk for developing certain diseases in the future,” said Dr. Jeremy Cauwels, chief medical officer at Sanford Health. “It gives patients the opportunity to learn more about their own DNA, allowing them to better understand their personal health risks and plan for a healthier future with their physician.”
The information patients agree to provide will be used confidentially by researchers to learn more about how DNA affects health, what causes certain diseases, and the best treatments to help people live longer, healthier lives. All participants will be provided with updates about the research study and its impact.
