India, Indonesia and Australia on Tuesday reaffirmed their commitment to working towards a free, open and rules-based Indo-Pacific.
The India-Indonesia-Australia Trilateral Dialogue “Focal Points” meeting reviewed the overall situation in the Indo-Pacific region.
“The three countries held discussions to explore opportunities for cooperation, including in the areas of the Indo-Pacific Maritime Initiative, the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) mechanism framework, maritime domain awareness, marine pollution and blue economy cooperation,” the ministry said in a statement.
The report said the three countries noted the convergence of India’s Indo-Pacific Maritime Initiative (IPOI) and the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific.
India has consistently supported ASEAN’s centrality in the Indo-Pacific.
The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is considered one of the most influential groupings in the region.
“India, Indonesia and Australia reaffirmed their commitment to advance shared values and work together towards a free, open, inclusive, peaceful, prosperous and rules-based Indo-Pacific,” the foreign ministry said in a statement.
At the East Asia Summit in Bangkok in 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi proposed the establishment of the Indo-Pacific Initiative (IPOI) to undertake meaningful efforts to conserve and sustainably use the maritime domain and create a safe and secure maritime domain.
