Bobby Lashley and MVP leave WWE.
Dave Meltzer said on Wrestling Observer Radio Monday that Bobby Lashley and MVP are on their way out of WWE. Meltzer said their contracts are expiring soon.
“I know there’s been talk about them trying to get into AEW, it’s one of those things that technically no one can talk to them about because I don’t believe either of their contracts are up, but their contracts are up and at this point, the way things are right now, WWE is assuming that they’re gone and that they’re going to try and revamp The Hurt Business,” he said, noting that he wasn’t sure if they would use that name.
Meltzer also said that MVP & Lashley are looking to bring in Shelton Benjamin as well, a former member of the group who is also a free agent after being released by WWE last September, to reform the group in AEW.
“I’m not sure it’s a done deal or anything, but it’s something that’s real,” he said.
Fightful Select first reported on Sunday that Bobby Lashley’s contract would expire “in the next month or so, maybe a couple of weeks.” Later that day, MVP posted an emoji saluting an X.
Lashley, MVP, Benjamin, and Cedric Alexander formed The Hurt Business in 2020 and were prominent on the Raw brand during the pandemic, with Lashley at one point holding the WWE and United States titles and Alexander & Benjamin holding the Raw Tag Team titles. The group eventually disbanded in early 2022. While a reunion was teased last year, the storyline was quietly teased.
Alexander remains with WWE and was recently moved to the NXT roster.
