LOS ANGELES (KABC) — “Machete” star Danny Trejo was involved in a fight that broke out during the Independence Day parade in Sunland-Tujunga.
The incident started when someone allegedly threw a water balloon at the vintage convertible Trejo was riding in. That’s when things escalated.
A video posted to social media shows the 80-year-old actor confronting a man along the course, presumably the person he thought threw the water balloon. The footage appears to show Trejo punching the man and the man fighting back. The man’s punch missed, but a scuffle ensues and Trejo falls.
The man who hit Trejo then punches another man in the face, knocking him to the ground.
A larger fight breaks out, but is quickly stopped by passersby who defuse the situation.
At one point during the melee, Trejo grabs a folding chair and throws it.
Video of the aftermath of the incident shows Trejo arguing with a woman who appears to be restraining him.
A witness said he immediately took out his cellphone and captured the heated moments, which reportedly lasted for nearly 10 minutes before police arrived.
“This parade looks like a scene where people are throwing water balloons at each other,” said witness Stanley Herrarte.
“The reason Danny was so angry is that people don’t usually throw water balloons at luxury cars when they drive by,” he added.
Eyewitness News has reached out to representatives for Trejo and parade organizers for comment.
Trejo has made a career in Hollywood playing tough guys and villains. He is best known for his role as Machete in several Robert Rodriguez films.
In recent years he has also ventured into the food sector.
