Investing.com — Apple Inc.’s (NASDAQ:) recently announced artificial intelligence features will be released later than expected and will not be included in the first software update for its flagship iPhone and iPad devices, Bloomberg reported Sunday.
Bloomberg reports that Apple’s AI initiative, known as Apple Intelligence, won’t arrive in time for the initial release of iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 in September. The AI features will instead be released in the major iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1 software updates scheduled for October.
Bloomberg reports that Apple plans to make the AI tools available to developers as early as this week.
In June, the company announced a series of new AI-powered features for its flagship products, joining a growing trend among big tech companies to lean into AI. Apple Intelligence is expected to let users generate text and images, as well as provide better support for voice assistants.
Apple Intelligence will be available on iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPads, and Macs with Apple’s M1 chip or later.
The AI is expected to help offset the steady slowdown in sales of its flagship iPhone, which the company has faced for more than a year due to increasing competition and saturation in the smartphone market.
Apple is due to report fourth-quarter results later this week, and is expected to report a continued decline in device sales.
