PARIS — France’s left-wing New Popular Front alliance and President Emmanuel Macron’s centrist coalition thwarted a far-right victory in legislative elections on Sunday, staging one of the greatest political upsets in recent French history. The results were a major defeat for Marine Le Pen’s populist, anti-immigrant National Rally party, which had hoped that Sunday would mark the final step in its transformation from a fringe neofascist group into a mainstream political force.Instead of ushering in France’s first far-right government since World War II, the French voters who turned out in high numbers on Sunday boosted the left and the center, which…

The broader leftist coalition — under the banner of the New Popular Front — is falling out already. Its leaders on Sunday evening were sending conflicting messages about their goals. While Mélenchon said the left would apply “our manifesto, nothing but our manifesto,” the MEP Raphaël Glucksmann, leader of a smaller party in the alliance, appeared more conciliatory, offering to “talk, debate and change political culture.” What might emerge from the mess? There’s no easy answer to this one. As no party has won outright, it’s possible the president could opt for a cooling off period that will give parties…
National Rally comes in third place in French legislative elections, left-wing coalition comes in first
But the result puts France in uncharted territory, as it has never had a parliament without a dominant party. Much of what happens next will depend on the highly unpopular president, Emmanuel Macron. ADVERTISEMENTA coalition of the French left has won the most seats in the second round of a high-stakes legislative election, fending off the rise of the far right but failing to secure an absolute majority. According to the final results, the left-wing alliance of the New Popular Front, formed only three weeks ago, won 182 seats.289 seats are needed to obtain a majority in the National Assembly,…

Hundreds of journalists had come from across the world, the sniffer dogs in place to protect a party that was, we all thought, at the gates of power; the first time the far right would enter government in France since World War Two.But as…
CHEYENNE, Wyo. — The Cheyenne-Laramie County Health Department inspects restaurants, bars, convenience stores, delis, gourmet food stores, bed and breakfasts and more. Non-critical violations, on the other hand, may be more related to cleanliness or maintenance of the establishment. According to the Department of Health, “We try to ensure that the facility corrects any violations immediately.…
