Labour Leader Keir Starmer celebrates winning the 2024 general election with a speech at Tate Modern in London on Friday. Ricky Vigil/Getty Images Europe hide caption toggle caption Ricky Vigil/Getty Images Europe LONDON — An earthquake in British politics. With far-right parties ascendant in France and elsewhere in Europe, the United Kingdom has swung in the opposite direction. Official election results Friday showed a landslide victory for the country’s center-left Labour Party — its first victory in 19 years, since under the leadership of Tony Blair. Incoming Prime Minister Keir Starmer hailed his win as historic, saying early Friday: “Change…
Low stock prices aren’t always a bad sign. Check out these two affordable tech stocks poised for growth amid the AI boom. A low stock price isn’t always a bad thing: it’s like a clearance sale at your favorite store. Just because a stock is cheap doesn’t mean it’s a failure. Sometimes the company had a bad quarter or maybe there’s a market panic that’s unrelated to its performance. In some cases, the long-term opportunities available to a small company aren’t recognized by Wall Street. For savvy investors, a low stock price can be a chance to buy a solid…

Restructuring of community mental health centres aims to prevent patients from falling through the cracks
After years of work to restructure state-funded community mental health centers, the Wyoming Department of Health (WDH) launched a new system July 1. It creates three tiers of patient categories, some of which will not have to pay at all.For 60 years, the state has operated community mental health centers in each county under a self-service model. The centers provide outpatient and inpatient services at a sliding scale tied to the federal poverty level.Andi Summerville, executive director of the Wyoming Association of Mental Health and Addiction Centers (WAMHSAC), said that leaves many people who need those services the most falling…
There’s a joke in one of my favorite movies, “Real Genius,” that seems to apply directly to many of the discussions we’re having about AI today. (It’s an ’80s movie, so it’s not a scene, it’s a montage, set to the music “I’m Falling” by The Comsat Angels.) In this film, our protagonist Mitch attends a normal math class, but during the editing, most of the class is replaced by tape recorders of various sizes. In the final shot, Mitch enters the classroom to find that a large tape recorder has replaced the teacher himself. It is simply a recording…
With advances in artificial intelligence happening at breakneck speed, it can feel like we’re all stuck in a race with no time to stop and catch our breath. So on days like these, it’s good to remember that, just like humans, there are hilarious underachievers out there. The best of the moment is this fascinating collection of multi-limbed, anti-gravity gymnastics routines, in which athletes grow extra arms and legs, float in mid-air, flip around and seem to bend reality itself as the apparatus morphs and lengthens beneath them. But it’s best to just watch…Moving bodies seem to be a real…

The company recently adopted a “poison pill” plan to prevent an activist investor from acquiring more shares. The Mariners announced today that President of Business Operations Catie Griggs has resigned from her position to pursue an opportunity closer to home and family. Griggs, a North Carolina native, joined the Mariners in July 2021, replacing former team president Kevin Mather, who fell from grace after making offensive comments at a Bellevue Rotary Club conference. Griggs represented a new direction for the club and for baseball itself: At the time of her hiring, she was the only woman in baseball to hold the title of “president” (she was joined in 2023 by the Marlins’ Caroline O’Connor, who now takes…
MIAMI (AP) — Donald Trump distanced himself on Friday from Project 2025, a massive overhaul proposal federal government drafted by longtime allies and former officials in his administration, days after the head of the think tank responsible for the program suggested there would be a second American Revolution.“I don’t know anything about Project 2025,” Trump wrote on his social media site. “I have no idea who is behind it. I don’t agree with some of the things they say and some of the things they say are absolutely ridiculous and appalling. Whatever they do, I wish them well, but I…
It’s no secret that Americans love guns. Not only do nearly half of Americans report living in a household with guns, but the United States leads every other country in the world in gun density (the second-most gun-dense country is Yemen, and it’s not even close). The United States is actually the only country with more guns than people. Given all of this, it’s no surprise that in some states, you can now walk into a grocery store and buy bullets from a vending machine like you’re ordering a candy bar or soda. Well, sort of. Not quite. The vending…
