A fugitive wanted in connection with a deadly shooting in Tennessee this year was arrested Monday after falling through the ceiling of a Memphis home where he was hiding, federal authorities said.
The suspect, Diario Wilkerson, 20, who was uninjured, was taken into custody without incident on charges of first-degree murder and negligent use of a deadly weapon in connection with the April 2 killing of Troy Cunningham northeast of downtown Memphis, the U.S. Marshals Service said in a news release.
According to the release, police special investigations units tracked Wilkerson to his home and surrounded him when he tried to hide in the attic.
Wilkerson is one of three people identified as suspects in Cunningham’s murder, and the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office said the incident occurred after the suspects stole Cunningham’s gun and fired it at him.
Cunningham was shot in the back of the head while fleeing, prosecutors said in a news release.
Two other suspects have already been arrested and charged, according to prosecutors. An arrest warrant for Wilkerson was issued in May.
It was not clear Tuesday whether Wilkerson had an attorney on his behalf; court records did not list one.
