Baseball America has released the July update to its Top 100 list, marking its mid-season referendum on the MLB prospect landscape. They have placed eight (8) Seattle Mariners prospects in their Top 100. One Mariners prospect was a recent addition to the list, while two others have seen some of the biggest rises and falls on the list, respectively. The individuals included are:
No. 13 SS Colt Emerson
No. 29 by Lazaro Montes
No. 41 SS/2B Cole Young
No. 61 by Jonny Farmelo
No. 72 C Harry Ford
#79 1B Tyler Locklear
No. 80, right-handed relief pitcher Logan Evans
No. 95 SS Felnin Celesten
Emerson has exploded onto the scene thanks to significant improvements in his offensive profile, namely hitting the ball harder and on a line drive, with minimal impact on his contact ability, while Montes has wreaked havoc like a kaiju in the Low-A California League and is now taking flight in the High-A Everett League. Farmelo has also been recognized for his breakout game and has earned a spot despite an ACL injury that will sideline him until 2025. Young, Ford and Locklear continue to perform at a high level at age-appropriate levels or levels they are young at, though Ford has dropped off somewhat due to hits to his power production thus far. While I expect low power numbers from all of RHH’s prospects in Double-A Arkansas, it’s fair to say Ford’s power can fluctuate. Evans continues to look sharp, now as a relief arm, while Celesten makes the list because of his sharp appearance in the Arizona Complex League. Honorable mentions went to INF Michael Arroyo (now in High-A Everett with Montes) and OF Aidan Smith (Low-A Modesto).
