Business leaders across the US reacted with shock, sadness and prayers over the assassination attempt former President Trump during a campaign rally Saturday in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Trump was grazed by a bullet that pierced his upper right ear after he turned to the right while addressing the crowd from a podium at the event. One attendee, Corey Comperatore, was killed in the shooting while two other rally attendees were wounded.
The shooter, who has been identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, was killed by law enforcement officers. Authorities have not released a motive for the shooting and the investigation is ongoing.

Apple CEO Tim Cook
Apple CEO Tim Cook wrote in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter: “I pray for President Trump’s speedy recovery. My thoughts are with him, the other victims, and the Trump family. I strongly condemn this violence.”
Entrepreneur Mark Cuban
Cuban, a billionaire investor and longtime Trump critic, wrote in a post on X soon after the assassination attempt that he hoped “the former President is OK and no one else got hurt” and that authorities would “catch the fool who did this. This is not the way.” He also thanked “the Secret Service who put themselves at risk” to protect the former president.
After reports emerged that a protester was shot dead in an assassination attempt, Cuban wrote: “This is heartbreaking. I wish there was some way we could help support this man and his family.”
Cuba also warned its followers and social media users to be aware of scams perpetrated by fraudsters who use fake accounts and bots to take advantage of public reaction and sympathy for victims, writing, “When tragedies and horrific events like the attempted assassination of former President Trump occur, it gives rise to accounts that make things worse and are deceptive.”

“The assassination attempt on former President Trump was horrific. The statement also explained Crooks’ appearance in an ad the company produced two years ago: “In 2022, we aired an ad featuring a teacher from Bethel Park High School, in which several unpaid students appear briefly in the background, including Thomas Matthew Crooks. We will provide all footage of the video to the appropriate authorities, and we have removed the video from circulation out of respect for the victims.”

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the nation’s largest business trade group, released a statement Saturday saying: “We are relieved to hear that President Trump is safe following the shooting at his rally, and we are deeply saddened by the impact on innocent attendees, including the tragic loss of life. There is no place in our democracy for acts of violence. Now more than ever, we must come together as a country and uphold the democratic values that define us as a nation.”
