Comedian and talk show host Bill Maher said on X that he was canceling his Sunday night show in Milwaukee.
“I can safely say there will be no screening tonight,” Maher said in a video posted to the social media site. “We were initially told that downtown (Milwaukee) would be closed off for safety reasons, making it impossible to get to the theater.”
“We want to get to Milwaukee anyway and things could change, so we hate to cancel the show,” Maher said, adding that the last few shows he’s had to cancel were due to flight issues or weather.
“Well, as you all know, the plane broke down again,” Maher said.
Maher is currently in Minneapolis and tried to board a commercial flight but “it was not possible,” he said.

“I am truly sorry but I will not be able to make it to tonight’s show in Milwaukee. I am heartbroken,” Maher said. “I was really looking forward to it and would have done anything to be there, but I can’t fight the situation.”
Maher was scheduled to perform at the Riverside Theatre, where his show was “postponed due to mechanical issues with the artist’s aircraft,” according to the theater’s website.
Maher, who is also the host of HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher,” was scheduled to perform as part of “The WTF? Tour.” In an interview with the Journal Sentinel last week, Maher said he was excited about the Milwaukee show as an opportunity to bring people together.
A man who was said to be the plane’s captain was seen on video with Maher saying: “We know there are a lot of conspiracy theorists out there and we want you to come forward and testify.”
A man dressed as a pilot and whom Maher called “Steve” insisted that “everything he just said” about Maher was true.
Maher ended by joking with fans, “I probably wouldn’t have been able to go to the show anyway, so I guess the show was just never going to happen.”
Maher asked fans for forgiveness.
“See you soon, Milwaukee,” Maher said. “I love you.”
‘The Daily Show’ cancels week-long show in Milwaukee
Early Sunday morning, “The Daily Show” canceled its plans to come to Milwaukee for the 2024 Republican National Convention.
The Comedy Central news and satire show had planned to fly most of its crew to Milwaukee to tape shows in front of an audience at the Marcus Performing Arts Center from Monday through Thursday, culminating in a week of shows hosted by Jon Stewart taped live immediately following President Trump’s planned acceptance speech on Thursday night.
“The Daily Show” sent emails to ticket holders informing them of the cancellation and cancelling their tickets.
“We apologize for the inconvenience, but due to logistical challenges and the evolving situation in Milwaukee, we will not be broadcasting from Wisconsin this week,” the email said.
