Dave Portnoy has argued that “thug” Donald Trump, who survived an assassination attempt in Pennsylvania on Saturday, will easily win this year’s presidential election.
Former president and Republican candidate Trump was rushed off the stage by Secret Service agents during a campaign rally in Butler after gunshots rang out in the crowd.
Trump, whose face was bleeding as he rose to his feet surrounded by Secret Service agents, said in a statement afterwards that the bullet had “pierced” part of his ear.
The attacker fired “multiple shots,” killing one person and seriously wounding two in the crowd, and the suspect was dramatically shot dead by a Secret Service sniper.
The Secret Service said a suspect fired shots from “an elevated location outside the rally venue” and that the FBI had taken over the investigation.
Portnoy, who revealed he was on the plane when the incident occurred, insisted after landing that Trump would win handily against rival Joe Biden.
The head of Barstool Sports posted to X: “Just landed and missed the sneak peek attempt. Oh my goodness. Trump’s reaction is awful. The election is over. He’s the next president. Democrats should give up. There’s no way they can beat him now.”
“Also, let’s stop hating both sides. This country is divided. Let the voters decide. Voting for one side doesn’t make you the devil.”
Portnoy also posted a photo of Trump standing with his fist raised shortly after the shooting, writing: “The election is over.”
He also criticized President Biden for taking so long to comment on the situation.
Portnoy continued, “How can a former president and current Republican candidate survive an assassination attempt and yet the President of the United States not utter a word for over an hour? Where is @JoeBiden?”
This comes after Portnoy launched an expletive-filled tirade against George Clooney this week, saying he “just found out the president is in a vegetative state.”
“I was shot above the right ear,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform on Saturday night.
“I heard a whoosh and a gunshot and felt the bullets going through my skin so I knew straight away something was wrong,” he said. “I was bleeding profusely and that’s when I realized what was going on.”
Trump thanked the Secret Service and other law enforcement for their “swift response” and offered his condolences “to the family of the individual who died at the rally and the family of another individual who was seriously injured.”
“I can’t believe something like this could happen in our country. The perpetrator is already dead and we don’t know anything at this point,” he said.
In a final statement, Biden said the incident “must be condemned by all” and said he wanted to speak to his 2024 presidential rivals soon.
Addressing the nation about two hours after the shooting, Biden said he was relieved that the former president was reportedly “doing well,” a statement the White House confirmed from his presidential rivals.
“We cannot allow this to happen,” he said. “This kind of violence is unheard of in America.”
As President Trump showed a graph showing the number of people crossing the border, explosions began to ring out.
The former president had his right hand outstretched to his neck and his face appeared to be bloody.
He quickly ducked into hiding as security agents rushed onto the stage and screams erupted from the crowd, and the explosions continued as agents tended to him.
The crowd cheered as he stood, pumped his fist and headed for the motorcade leaving the venue.
Police began clearing the Butler venue shortly after Trump left the stage.
“There is absolutely no place for political violence in our democracy,” President Barack Obama said in a statement.
“We should all be relieved that former President Trump was not seriously injured and use this opportunity to recommit ourselves to civility and respect in politics.”
