President Joe Biden is facing stiff opposition from some high-profile Hollywood donors a week after his disastrous debate performance against former President Donald Trump.
Millionaire heiress Abigail Disney told CNBC on Thursday that she would stop donating to the Democratic Party “until they replace Biden at the top of the ticket.”
“Biden is a good man and has served his country admirably, but the stakes are way too high,” Disney, a longtime Democratic donor, told the outlet. “If Biden doesn’t resign, the Democrats will lose. I’m absolutely certain of that. The consequences of that defeat will be truly disastrous.”
In 2024, Disney has donated more than $50,000 to left-wing political groups so far, according to Federal Election Commission records.
His statement comes a day after Netflix co-founder Reed Hastings said Democrats should replace Biden at the top of the ticket.
“Biden must step aside to allow a strong Democratic leader to defeat Trump and keep us safe and prosperous,” Hastings said in a statement to The New York Times.
Hastings and his wife, Patty Quillin, have been big supporters of the Democratic Party, donating more than $20 million to the party in recent years.
Earlier Thursday, the Times reported that Biden said in a call with Democratic governors that he planned to sleep more and stop holding events after 8 p.m.
