Donald Trump is scheduled to travel to Milwaukee today after surviving an assassination attempt at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
“Following yesterday’s horrific events, I had intended to postpone my trip to Wisconsin and the Republican National Convention by two days, but have decided that I cannot allow a ‘shooter’ or potential assassin to force me to change my schedule, or anything else,” he wrote on Truth Social. “As such, I will be leaving for Milwaukee as planned today at 3:30 PM. Thank you! DJT.”
Trump’s arrival in Milwaukee has sparked speculation that he may make some sort of appearance at the party’s convention on Monday night.
Trump has also yet to announce his running mate, suggesting last week that he might do so during the party convention, something that is rare in modern politics. Prior to the assassination attempt, it was reported that Trump had recently met with three of his running mates, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio), and North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum.
The shooting at the rally has rocked the political world and is likely to dominate much of the coverage of the convention this week. Nikki Haley, Trump’s main rival for the nomination, is reportedly planning to speak later this week. She was not on a list of scheduled speakers circulated by the campaign on Saturday afternoon.
