Bergmann was a three-time All American while with the Yellow Jackets from 2019-22.
ATLANTA — One of Georgia Tech’s most decorated former volleyball players will have a chance to add to her career accomplishments at the Paris Olympics this summer.
Julia Bergmann was named to the Brazilian Olympic team on Friday. Bergmann was a three-time All American with the Yellow Jackets from 2019-22.
Bergmann’s chances of winning a medal are good — according to a statement from Tech’s athletics department, Brazil heads to Paris as the No. 2 ranked volleyball team in the world, and they won silver at the Tokyo Olympics.

Bergmann, according to Tech’s release, is the first Olympian in the history of the volleyball program. She is also the leading scorer in Yellow Jackets history, with 4.31 kills/set.
The school’s statement added:
Bergmann earned her spot on the 13-player roster after a strong showing at the Volleyball Nations League earlier this summer. She played seven matches during the month-long tournament, finishing with 39 kills and 11 aces to go along with five blocks. She proved herself a weapon on serve, posting four aces and 12 kills in Brazil’s win over Poland in Week 3, part of her strong finish to the tournament (26 kills and 10 aces in her last three VNL matches).
Brazil’s first volleyball match in Paris is scheduled for July 29 against Kenya at 7 a.m. ET (1 p.m. local time in France).
