Rudy Giuliani, a former lawyer for President Trump, said he has “no regrets” about falsely accusing two Georgia election workers of fraud in the 2020 election.
“I have absolutely no regrets. I’m on the side of justice, rights and truth,” Giuliani said in an interview on the sidelines of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee on Tuesday, repeatedly denying that he had ever defamed anyone.
The former New York City mayor and former lawyer to former President Donald Trump, who is not scheduled to speak at this week’s convention, likened his legal woes to the “Japanese American internment” during World War II.
In December, Mr Giuliani was ordered to pay $148 million to campaign staffers Ruby Freeman and Shay Moss. His bankruptcy filing was dismissed last week, allowing Messrs. Freeman and Moss, as well as other creditors, to seize his assets.
Moss and Freeman plan to immediately pursue those assets, their lawyer, Rachel Strickland, told CNN’s “The Source” on Friday.
Giuliani has accused the federal judge overseeing a defamation lawsuit brought by two campaign staffers and his own bankruptcy case as “bloodthirsty” and “ridiculous.”
Giuliani also falsely claimed that Freeman and Moss’ legal fees were “all paid for by President (Joe) Biden.”
The mother and daughter were represented pro bono by a prominent law firm and the advocacy group Protect Democracy, which has pursued Giuliani and others in their attempts to overturn the 2020 election.
Their cases offered a scathing glimpse into the harassment that election workers suffered while prominent Trump supporters spread lies about the 2020 election.
Giuliani faces separate criminal charges in Arizona and Georgia in connection with Trump’s efforts to overturn his election defeat – to which he has pleaded not guilty – and earlier this month lost his license to practice law in New York after presenting false information in court while challenging the election results on Trump’s behalf.
