Judging by the date, it looks like Boise was a rest stop for the Fieri family on their way to Salt Lake City for the 2023 NBA All-Star Game. They may have only been in town for a few days, but they wereted no time. During that visit, Food Network DDD episode Sunshine Spice Cafe, Taj Mahal Homemade Indian and Pakistani Cuisine, Tango subs and empanadas, Alyonka Russian CuisineWest Side Drive-In, St. Lawrence Gridiron and mother. All of this brought Boise national attention last spring and summer.
Fieri has been hosting the popular food show for an unprecedented 49 seasons, and including a Boise restaurant he visited last year, he’s featured at least 14 Idaho restaurants on the show. So when I saw that Delish had updated its list of “Each State’s Best Diners, Drive-ins & Dives,” I was intrigued to see if one of Boise’s restaurants had made it to the top spot in Idaho.
Unfortunately, Coeur d’Alene’s Jimmy’s Down the Street still holds the top spot. Jimmy’s was featured in a February 2011 episode of “Favorites With a Twist,” which also featured restaurants in Oakland, California, and Manchester, Connecticut.
During his visit, Fieri touted the Chicken and Dumplings (available Friday-Sunday only), which is based on Jimmy’s mother’s recipe. Executive chef Ben McFarland walked Fieri through how to make it, and it’s clear that Jimmy’s mother spent a lot of time and love cooking it for her family.
Fieri also learned how to make her world-famous, jumbo-sized, handmade caramel pecan rolls from Jimmy’s Down the Street Baker, Kim Wohlert.
Jimmy’s Down the Street has had several names and owners over the years, but has been in business in Coeur d’Alene for over 50 years, and has been owned by Jimmy and his wife Anna since 2009.
