Hotel room interior for 2 people.Modern and luxurious design.
TROY, Mich. (WJET/WFXP) — J.D. Power has released this year’s North American Hotel Guest Satisfaction Index (NAGSI) study, showcasing the top hotels in North America and revealing emerging travel trends.
Now in its 28th year, the annual survey begins with a survey conducted the previous year and releases the results in July of the following year. The survey aims to measure guest satisfaction with the entire hotel experience, from pre-stay communication to check-out.
The study categorizes hotels into nine segments: luxury, upper upscale, upscale, upscale extended stay, upper midscale, upper midscale/midscale extended stay, midscale, economy and economy extended stay.
The survey found that Americans are traveling less but staying longer in one place: North American travelers are taking an average of nine trips, down from 10 in 2023. Travelers are also staying an average of 3.43 days per trip, compared to 3.36 days in 2023.
The study also found that overall satisfaction has improved steadily, despite the fastest increases in average room rates for luxury and upscale hotels, while other segments have seen larger declines year-over-year.
The study surveyed around 40,000 hotel guests between May 2023 and May 2024. Guests were asked to rate their stay based on the following factors: communication and connectivity, food and beverages, room, hotel facilities, staff service, and value for money. The survey and findings are based on a 1,000-point scale.
The top hotels in each segment are:
