After skipping the first three days of the 2024 Republican National Convention, Melania Trump arrived on the fourth night in a rare campaign appearance.
The former first lady entered the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee amid thunderous applause, wearing a classic Republican red skirt suit also worn by Donald Trump Jr.’s fiancée, Kimberly Guilfoyle, and J.D. Vance’s wife, Usha Chilukuri Vance.
He waved to the crowd before taking his place in the VIP box next to Vance.
Since Donald Trump announced his re-election bid in November 2022, Melania Trump has largely stayed out of the campaign. She has made a few rare public appearances, attending Rosalynn Carter’s funeral in November 2023 and speaking at a naturalization ceremony at the National Archives in December 2023.
After the assassination attempt nearly claimed her husband’s life on Saturday, Melania Trump released a statement calling the shooter a “monster who identified my husband as an inhuman political machine.”
“As I watched the devastating bullet strike my husband, Donald, I realized my life, and Barron’s life, were on the verge of a devastating change,” she wrote. She was not with their son, Barron, by her side Thursday night.
He did not speak at the convention, but Donald Trump thanked him in his speech for his “beautiful” letter that “called for national unity.”
“I would say, it really shocked the Republican Party,” he said.
Melania Trump joined him on stage after his speech, which was the longest convention acceptance speech in modern history.
