LFD Announces Modular AI Smartphone “Node by PAIR”
Design collective LFD (short for Life For Design) unveils Concept Modular artificial intelligence smartphoneUnder its flagship brand, PAIR, Node can vary up to eight blocks depending on the size of the module. camera and speaker There are even mini-screens and braille displays for the visually impaired. These blocks attach to smartphones with magnetic fasteners and appear to be easily removable.
So far, a total of 15 node functions are available on this modular AI smartphone. Users can add their own SSD on the back for extra storage, which can only be removed via facial or fingerprint recognition as it may contain sensitive information. There’s also a “memory” module that can monitor and store user health data, as well as hotkey buttons for games and camera shortcuts.

Interchangeable blocks on the back of the AI device
What is a smartphone without speakers? In the case of PAIR’s Node, the LFD expands in size and can take up to four blocks on the back of the modular AI device. The double speakers also have rich bass as a portable boombox that fits in the palm of your hand. If the screen size of your smartphone is not enough for you, Design Group It is expected to have an edge-to-edge display with a 6:9 ratio, allowing users to place a sub-display at the back, perfect for important apps like weather, clock, missed calls, etc.
With AI powering the modular device, PAIR’s nodes can also feature a block dedicated to a smart assistant, and a microphone to listen and process the user’s voice prompts. For those who forget their charger or use their phone heavily throughout the day, a power bank module can also be attached at will, eliminating the need to carry an external battery pack. LFD is also designing a camera module that can simultaneously accommodate one to four lenses, allowing users to change lenses depending on the type of shooting.

Braille displays for the visually impaired
Blind people can replace PAIR’s Node blocks with a braille display made of tiny screw-like objects sticking out. Above the display is a mini screen, and whatever is projected onto this screen or the main screen, a little stick of the braille display automatically sticks out to show the app that’s being displayed on the screen above it. LFD configures the widgets of its modular AI smartphone with customizable blocks.
Unlike common mobile phones these days, users can resize the layout with 16 margins and up to 6 columns, which is similar to the game of Tetris. Widgets can be expanded up and down until users find the combination that suits them. It is also no exaggeration to say that this smartphone is AI-powered and also has a smart assistant that supports real-time language translation and even voice-over and command functions. At the time of publishing this article, PAIR’s Node is still a concept modular AI smartphone.
