Nikki Haley to speak at the Republican National Convention tonight
President Trump’s son, Eric Trump, told NBC News that former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley is scheduled to speak at the Republican National Convention tonight.
Haley, the former president’s rival for the Republican nomination and the administration’s ambassador to the United Nations, accepted an invitation to speak at the party’s convention on Sunday.
Earlier this month, Haley removed 97 delegates from the party’s convention to acknowledge their support for Trump.
Liz Cheney slams Vance for casting doubt on Biden’s election legitimacy
Former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), a scathing critic of Trump and vice chair of the House January 6th Committee, slammed Vance, a Republican senator from Ohio, the day after Trump announced him as his running mate.
“J.D. Vance has vowed to do what Mike Pence will not do: overturn the results of the election and illegally seize power. He says the president can ignore court decisions,” Cheney wrote in an X post, reposting a February message criticizing Vance’s comments during a heated interview on ABC’s “This Week.”
In the interview, when asked whether he would have certified the election results if he had been Trump’s vice president in 2020, Vance said he believed battleground states such as Pennsylvania and Georgia and “a number of other states should have been told that they needed to nominate multiple electors and then the Congress should have contested from there.”
During her time as a congresswoman, Cheney faced backlash from Trump and his congressional allies for condemning Trump’s baseless claims of election rigging that helped incite a mob of his supporters who stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.
What you need to know about J.D. Vance
Vance was an outspoken critic of Trump during his 2016 presidential campaign, the same year he was promoting his memoir, “Hillbilly Elegy.” He then won a 2022 Senate race for an open seat in heavily Republican Ohio and transformed into one of Trump’s staunchest MAGA supporters during his 18 months in the senator position.
As a senator, Vance is known for his “America First” skepticism of U.S. involvement in global affairs, such as the war in Ukraine, and his opposition to bipartisan agreements on government funding.

President Trump draws cheers at Republican Convention in first public appearance since shooting
President Trump made his first public appearance yesterday since a gunman attempted to assassinate him at a political rally two days earlier, entering the Republican Convention Hall with a bandage on his right ear and his fist raised aloft to thunderous applause.
Supporters at the convention and those standing in the stadium sang along to a live rendition of “God Bless the USA” by singer Lee Greenwood, as Trump waved to them and took his seat with his family and new vice presidential nominee J.D. Vance, before being joined by Tucker Carlson and Florida Rep. Byron Donald.
Trump maintained a calm expression as the crowd around him erupted in excitement and chants of “USA” rang out.

Former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Marcia Fudge to co-chair Biden’s campaign
The Biden campaign plans to announce today that former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Marcia Fudge will serve as co-chair of his reelection campaign, according to a campaign official who first revealed the details to NBC News.
Campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez said in a statement that Fudge is a “fighter” and emphasized her political experience.
“She knows firsthand the historic work that President Biden and Vice President Harris have done for the American people, particularly as Secretary of Housing and Urban Development and as a member of Congress, to build more affordable housing and lower rents,” Chavez Rodriguez said, “And as co-chair, she will bring that deep knowledge and political savvy to our campaign. We couldn’t be more excited.”
Fudge, who left the Biden administration this year, was previously a congresswoman from Ohio.
The announcement came a day after Trump selected Vance, also from Ohio, as his running mate.

Republican convention seeks unity, but some old factions remain
MILWAUKEE — The focus on the first day of the Republican National Convention was the economy, but the spotlight was on President Trump’s first public appearance since the assassination attempt at a rally on Saturday.
While most speakers stuck to the evening’s theme of “Making America Prosperous Again,” there were references to the shootings throughout the evening and remarks that at times contradicted Trump’s own calls for unity.
