“The combination of air temperatures in the 90s and high humidity will lead to an increased risk of heat-related illness, particularly among people participating in outdoor activities on Independence Day,” the weather service warned.

We are returning to the mid-Atlantic summer normal. It is just in time to set up an uncomfortable Independence Day. Highs that were closer to normal on Wednesday will become quite warm over the next few days. If that is not enough to set the mood, high humidity and a risk of afternoon and evening thunderstorms are also added.

Tomorrow (Independence Day): Expect plenty of morning sunshine and bubbling clouds until noon. Midday temperatures are likely to approach 90°F (32°C). Highs are expected to reach the mid-32°C (90°F) in the immediate area, with a regional range of low to mid-32°C (90°F) likely. Dew points (a measure of humidity) reaching and exceeding 70°F (21°C) make it feel more like 100°F (38°C) or higher during peak heat.
Scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop in the afternoon and possibly last into the evening. Some could be intense, with brief torrential rain and isolated flooding, numerous lightning strikes and damaging wind gusts.
You may want to keep in mind that you may have to go indoors, but the odds currently favour a reduced chance of rain around the time of the fireworks. The weather is expected to remain wet, however.
