Hooters is closing one of its most popular locations after 20 years – leaving just one location in the state.
The popular restaurant chain will close its Manchester location after two decades, leaving just one location in Connecticut.
‘After nearly two decades of serving hot wings, cold beer and great memories, Hooters of Manchester has made the difficult decision to close its doors,’ the restaurant announced on social media.
‘Thank you for your support and loyalty over the years,’ he added.
The last remaining Connecticut location is in Wethersfield, but Manchester employees will be transferred to a restaurant in West Springfield, Massachusetts.
Hooters to close its Manchester location after twenty years
This comes after the restaurant chain announced the sudden closure of forty locations across the country last month.
Locations include Florida, Kentucky, Rhode Island, Texas, and Virginia.
Local customers reacted to the closing by commenting on the location’s Facebook post.
‘Thanks for all the memories!’ wrote one customer.
‘Wow, that was fun. I have great memories. Watching WWE matches, chicken wings, and of course the beautiful Hooters Girls!’ added another.
Despite the closure, bosses insist the 41-year-old brand ‘remains incredibly resilient and relevant,’ and highlighted Hooters’ new range of frozen meals being sold in supermarkets across America.
‘Like many restaurants under pressure due to current market conditions, Hooters has made the difficult decision to close a number of underperforming stores,’ a spokesperson told DailyMail.com.
‘We look forward to continuing to serve our guests at home, on the go, and in our restaurants in the US and around the world.’
Hooters will have about 300 restaurants worldwide after the closures, down from 333 in 2018, according to Techonomic.
In addition to being known for its scantily clad waitresses, Hooters also calls itself the ‘original American chicken wing restaurant’, and is celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2023.
Just last May, the company opened restaurants – three in Las Vegas and three in Florida.
The first Hooters opened in Clearwater, Florida in 1983. The restaurant – nicknamed the ‘breastauraunt’ in the ’90s – was originally conceived as a joke.
Started by the now infamous ‘Hooters Six’, who had absolutely no restaurant experience and were even arrested for impersonating restaurant owners, Hooters has undergone significant changes and achieved incredible success.

The founders included LD Stewart, a painting contractor; Gil DiGiannantonio, a liquor salesman; Ranieri, known as Uncle Billy, a retired service station owner; Ed Droste, a real estate executive; Dennis Johnson, a brick mason; and Ken Wimmer, a partner in a painting business with the LD Strange group.
And, despite their enthusiasm for their venture, the six of them didn’t expect the restaurant to last long.
When Hooters exploded in popularity, it spawned a new entity – one that put its name on calendars, casinos, airlines, NASCAR races and even grocery store products.
However, the restaurant chain’s success has not been without controversy, including gender discrimination in the 1990s, research into the mental health of its servers, and complaints about skimpy uniforms.
