JAKARTA – The Vietnam People’s Navy’s sailing vessel 286-Lê Quý Đôn arrived in Surabaya on Wednesday, kicking off its visit to Indonesia for exchanges with the Indonesian Navy.
The ship is carrying 120 naval officers and enlisted personnel, as well as cadets from the Vietnam Naval Academy.
Marine Corps Colonel Muhammad Taufiq, who welcomed the Vietnamese guests at the Surabaya Naval Base, stressed that the visit would strengthen cooperation and exchanges between the two countries’ navies.
Head of the Vietnamese delegation, Vice President of the Vietnam Naval Academy Nguyen Dinh Giang, expressed confidence that the visit would contribute to deepening mutual understanding and trust between the armies and navies of the two countries.
After the welcoming ceremony, the Indonesian delegation boarded the ship and interacted with the Vietnamese delegation.
The Vietnamese delegation is scheduled to conduct various exchange activities with the Indonesian Navy during its visit from July 17 to 20.
It will be an opportunity for Vietnamese officers, soldiers and cadets to improve their professional knowledge, combat readiness and weapon handling skills, promote interaction with their Indonesian peers and explore Indonesian culture, history and people.
This is the second visit of a Vietnamese ship to Indonesia, the first having been in 2019. — VNS
