The New York Yankees have come to terms with a trade with the Marlins for Miami outfielder Jazz Chisholm Jr., a source familiar with the deal told ESPN on Saturday.
The Marlins are set to acquire three prospects, including Triple-A catcher Augustin Ramirez, according to sources.
The 26-year-old Chisholm will help fill in some of the gaps on New York’s offensive line, where infielder DJ LeMahieu and outfielder Alex Verdugo have struggled. LeMahieu is batting just .160 this month, while Verdugo is batting just .178. Chisholm is batting just .249 with 13 homers and 50 RBIs this season.
Chisholm also struggled in July but brings speed to a team that ranks 29th in stolen bases. The Yankees’ new recruit has 22 stolen bases this year, nearly half of all New York players.
Chisholm will likely play both infield and outfield with his new team.
This move likely won’t be the last for New York, which has been active in the pitching market, but Chisholm could help the Yankees’ offense, which has been inconsistent since injuries to Giancarlo Stanton and Anthony Rizzo.
Chisholm is in his fifth season with Miami, where he posted a .749 OPS during his time there. He is a former All-Star and is expected to join the team in 2022.
Chisholm will have two years of team control after this season before becoming a free agent in 2027.
Ramirez is batting .269 with 20 home runs in Double-A and Triple-A this year.
