We’ve probably all seen generative AI tools like ChatGPT and Midjourney that can create text, drawings, and even computer code that look like they were created by a human.
These are very impressive, but are you just using them for fun or have you devised a way to make them do something truly useful?
Well, one of the areas that shows the most potential is the automation of routine tasks in the workplace. Over the past two years, we’ve seen a slew of new apps, tools, and services emerge that make it easier to work faster and more productively.
So, I’ve put together a list of the most impressive, useful, and innovative generative AI productivity tools available today that can help anyone get their work done faster and more efficiently, saving valuable time that can be used for more rewarding, creative work. In no particular order, I’ll start with five that I find particularly interesting or noteworthy:
The Pierre
Zapier is an integration tool, which means it helps other tools and applications communicate and collaborate with each other. For example, it can be used to automatically log information from sources like call logs, emails, chat transcripts, create task cards in project management tools like Trello, create calendar events, update records in CRM software like SalesForce or Hubspot, and more. This helps users save a lot of time in copying and updating records between different platforms, and also reduces the chances of human error.
Zapier now has a generative AI chatbot integrated, making this process as simple as telling it what you want to do. It automatically discovers the right connectors and triggers to draw insights from real-time business data, making it easy for anyone to build AI workflows that involve multiple applications and data sources.
Otter
In recent years, Otter has emerged as a leader in AI-powered meeting assistants. It can automatically create, organize, and search conversation transcripts, as well as extract insights and action items. It integrates with popular messaging and meeting apps like Zoom and Teams, and can generate email summaries to send to stakeholders and track necessary follow-ups. One thing that sets Otter apart is how user-friendly it is, meaning that colleagues who are nervous about trying new tools can quickly start using its AI capabilities.
Trello
Millions of people use project management tools to track work in progress and measure progress towards goals, with Trello being one of the most popular. Like many industry-standard tools, Trello has recently been enhanced with the inclusion of generative AI capabilities, in this case powered by the Atlassian Intelligence engine, which can generate content and automatic summaries, streamline the process of creating new cards, and even suggest improvements to grammar and clarity when communicating ideas. Atlassian Intelligence is currently only available to Premium and Enterprise Trello users, but may be integrated into the free version in the future.
Zoom with your AI companion
Zoom has established itself as an everyday tool during the COVID-19 pandemic, helping many businesses continue to operate (mostly) as normal. Even more people have found Zoom to be a great way to stay in touch with family and groups of friends. More recently, with the addition of Workplace Companion, Zoom has also been given a makeover with generative AI.
It allows users with paid subscriptions to create automated summaries, follow-ups, assignments and action points for calls and virtual meetings, eliminating the need for note-taking and other manual administrative tasks during meetings and allowing attendees to focus on the discussion at hand.
Beadon
BeeDone takes a different approach than many of the productivity apps featured here by gamifying the process of task management. It breaks down complex tasks into simple steps and awards points upon completion. It’s a fun idea that puts a new twist on the many “smart” to-do lists, task managers, and time trackers available. BeeDone learns your habits and fine-tunes its ability to optimize your process. It even includes a “productivity tournament” where users compete against each other to see who can be the most efficient.
