Japan is The most peaceful country It’s no surprise that Tokyo, voted one of the safest cities in the world last year, has also been named one of the safest travel destinations in the world for 2024. The list is part of BHTP’s annual “State of Travel Insurance: Safest Destinations” report. The survey first created a list of vacation destinations popular with U.S. travelers. Respondents who have visited these destinations were asked to rank them based on their first-hand knowledge. This initial ranking is then compared to results from other highly reputed cities and lifestyle indexes. In this case, safety is assessed based on key factors such as weather emergencies, terrorist threats, health measures, and safety of minority groups.
Tokyo ranked 11th in the final list of safest cities for 2024, down slightly from 7th last year. The city received high marks for overall safety, road safety and low violent crime, but low marks for LGBTQ+ safety. The report also said that travelers should be cautious during typhoon season (June to November), a period of uncertainty when landslides and floods are a possibility.
The report also ranked Tokyo as one of the safest cities for millennial travelers (9th), middle-aged and senior travelers (5th), and families (6th).
