Planning on heading to the theater to see the new “Twisters” movie? Keep an eye out for NOAA! You’ll see NOAA logos, props, and people (unpaid extras) throughout the movie. Our scientists worked hard behind the scenes with the producers to make the science as accurate and realistic (some of it!) as possible.
The story of “Twisters” follows a team of competing storm-chasers coming together to try to predict and hopefully quell the powerful forces of tornadoes. (Did you know that the female lead in “Twisters” is a fictional NOAA meteorologist?)
Remember, chasing tornadoes is fun, but never do it yourself. Call them tornadoes or tornadoes – it’s up to you, but the reality is these storms are anything but entertainment. They are terrifying forces of nature.
