In the tech world this week, Samsung held its Galaxy Unpacked showcase, where it revealed several new hardware including wearable tech and updated mobile devices.
It’s been a big week for product development, with Nothing subsidiary label CMF also unveiling a lineup of upcoming tech, including its first smartphone and updates to its earbuds and watch, while Apple is reportedly working on an Apple Watch Series 10 with a super-large screen.
Below, Hypebeast has rounded up the top tech news stories from this week to help you stay on top of industry trends.
Nothing subsidiary CMF launches first smartphone, updates earphones and watch
CMF by Nothing continues to expand its product lineup. The Nothing subsidiary brand has launched three more devices, including its first smartphone, the CMF Phone 1, and the second generation of its earphones and smartwatch, the CMF Buds Pro 2 and CMF Watch Pro 2.
Its first foray into mobile phones, the CMF Phone 1, is powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 7300 5G chipset and an impressive 5,000mAh battery.
The new CMF Watch Pro 2 and CMF Buds Pro 2 mark CMF’s first time creating a second version of a product, and each builds on its debut model launched last September. The watch has a 300mAh battery that lasts “up to 11 days” and can also monitor heart rate, blood oxygen saturation, and stress levels.
The CMF Buds Pro 2 earbuds are back in blue color and come with a battery that guarantees a total of 43 hours of battery life with the included charging case. In addition to six high-definition microphones, the headphones also offer active noise cancellation with Clear Voice Technology 2.0 and Wind-Noise Reduction 2.0.
Apple may equip the Series Watch 10 with a super-large screen
Despite avoiding any announcements about hardware updates at WWDC 2024 in June, Apple did announce some updates for the Apple Watch. BloombergMark Gurman of Apple Watch News reports that the upcoming Series 10, which marks the 10th anniversary of the Apple Watch, will feature an Apple Watch Ultra-sized screen.
Apple is also providing new chips for the Series 10 and Ultra 3 that could potentially help power some of the Watch’s AI features in development.
Finally, Apple will reportedly replace the Apple Watch SE’s aluminum shell with a plastic one.
Samsung unveils smart ring, watch and flip phone at Galaxy Unpacked event
Samsung held its second Galaxy Unpacked event of 2024, where the tech company unveiled its upcoming range of gadgets.
Following its debut at the Mobile World Conference earlier this year, Galaxy Unpacked in July saw the unveiling of the Galaxy Ring, a smart ring that collects personal health data such as heart rate and sleep cycles, and arrives in three titanium colours: silver, black and gold.
In the wearable tech space, Samsung has expanded its watch lineup with the addition of new models, the Galaxy Watch 7 and Galaxy Watch Ultra, the former of which has its roots in health tech, as does the smart ring.
On the mobile side, Samsung announced two new models of the Galaxy Z: the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6. The Fold 6 opens like a book, while the “portability-optimized” Flip 6 opens vertically. Samsung also released the Galaxy Buds 3 series with a “translator” mode that allows the earbuds to translate foreign languages directly into your ear.
