tempo, Jakarta – The Indonesian government announced that 86 public services from 16 government agencies have been restored following a cyberattack on the Provisional National Data Center (PDNS) 2 in June 2024.
In a statement on Saturday, July 13, 2024, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Hadi Tjahjanto explained that the restored services also include those related to permits and scholarships.
A joint team of relevant agencies, including the National Cyber and Cryptocurrency Agency (BSSN), is working as quickly and carefully as possible to achieve full recovery.
Tjahjanto outlined a three-zone data recovery plan based on data processing stages: red, blue and green.
“Data affected by the PDNS 2 incident has been isolated in the red zone,” he said.
The data is then moved to the Blue Zone for hardening and vulnerability scanning before being made available to users in the Green Zone.
Tjahjanto stressed careful recovery procedures to prevent a recurrence of the cyberattack, with the government working to remove malware and strengthen infrastructure security.
PDNS 2 was taken down by Brain Cipher ransomware on June 20. The government refused to pay the $8 million ransom demanded.
The government said on June 24 that 211 public services had been affected by the cyberattack. The following day, that number rose to 282.
